I'm interested in finding out what the "official" city/highway fuel economy numbers were for a 1977 Impala/Chevelle/Malibu/Camaro. If anyone has one of the old sales brochure for that year, it would be listed somewhere.
Thanks!
Mike
Mike, I have all those old brochures, but my '77 brochures don't list the EPA estimates. The Corporate Average Fuel Economy rules weren't in place until the 1978 model year. I'll try to dig up the figures if I can, perhaps from an old Motor Trend (if I can find it)...
I seem to recall that the '77 Impala got about 10% better mileage than a '76. That still makes them a bit thirsty. I used to own a '77 Oldsmobile 98 Regency. It had a 403 and 2.41 gearing. That thing got about 10 mpg in the city.
Any particular model and drivetrain combo you are looking for?

Geez it was hard to find on the net! The best I could do was ratings for 1978. The models you are looking for (except that they are '78s) are in there even though it's a damn unfriendly format by today's standards.

Keep in mind that the EPA ratings system was changed at some point- I don't remember the year but it was late 80's?- so the numbers aren't directly comparable between the "old" system and the "new".

Cam & theclencher,
You guys are good! Thanks! I searched the net for hours last night and wasn't able to find it.
I had a 1977 Chevy Impala. Beautiful for a big car, and it handled quite well.
Best Regards,
Mike

I had a '74 Nova that I put a 283 2bbl and "RV" cam into. I could squeak 21 or so out of it but normally my foot was too heavy for that.

when i got my 74 Monte, it was stone stock- points, 2 barrel carb, 2" single exhaust, 2.73 open rear..
it got around 17 mpg..
after putting on the weiand intake, q-jet, HEI, 700r4 overdrive trans with the lockup converter, dynomax ceramic headers, home made dual ram air kit, 2 1/4' dual exhaust, electric cooling fan, and 92 Caprice serpentine setup it gets..
17mpg
but at least it sounds better now..
