I'm working on the rear window area of my 72 el camino. I have molding clips, but I no longer have the welded mounting pins. They rusted off.

In Wes Vans' tech article, he mentioned that you could use the mounting screws for these molding clips.

Does anyone know what these mounting screw look like? Are they just standard sheet metal screws? Or, are they specialized screws?

Thanks,

Tom.

Actually they do have a special head but any sheetmetal screw with a small almost flat head will work. But, I just use pop rivets, easy and they stay put.

TooCoolZ28,

27 minutes for you to come up with an answer? what took you soo long? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Seriously, thanks for the quick reply. I guess that I will be swinging by the hardware store later, as i have no idea how to pop rivet.

Thanks,

Tom.

I just bought some of the replacment clip studs at a local auto paint supply shop. They are made by a co. called Au-ve-co and the part # is AUV 9877. They are just a sheetmetal screw w/a shoulder on them and the head is the same size as the original weld studs. They cost .08 cents apiece.

You can buy the screw in studs at this web site. They look like the OE except they have a sheet metal thread on the one end.
Just be prepared for a long down load time.
They also have rubber gromets and plugs.
hope this helps??
