I was considering adding a reproduction cushioned rim steering wheel to a 69 Chevelle but I'm not sure if they are actually a 69 item. Many parts suppliers advertise this wheel as a 69-70 reproduction and it looks nice. The option code was NK1 in 1970 but for 69 I can only find codes for the N34 wood-grain wheel. It might have been a mistake in my option list. While we see plenty of these today, not many were installed when new. Just curious if it would be correct or the wood-grain would be more accurate for an optional wheel. Thanks

From all references I've seen the cushioned-rim wheel was not available on the '69 Chevelles. 1970 was when they became an option on Chevelles. Vendors often make claims that a part is for multiple years because it will fit and are trying to make a sale.

Wood grain would definitely be more "correct" for a 69 Chevelle.

Had a guy GIVE me a '69 wood grip wheel, for helping him work on his S.S car. He went with a repro Rosewood wheel. I told my wife, all these years of giving people parts has finally turned our way! I was given that 302 Chevy crankshaft also!

Thanks for the input guys. I decided to go with the wood rim wheel. I think the cushioned-rim wheel based on what you and others have told me isn't really correct for a 69. I wish vendors would make the point in their catalogs when a part is replacement as opposed to reproduction. Thanks again.

If they did, do you think they would sell as many parts? That's why they make some descriptions vague. Most people don't care if it is correct, and the ones who do care, know what is or isn't correct.
