Has anyone replaced their own trunk before? I'm looking into replacing my trunk but I'm not sure if I can do it. I know how to weld and have a welder. I know how to use a torch and I have my own torch. What do I need to look out for if I do it myself? The trunk I have now has a few holes in it and I want to get it replaced before I have the car painted.

As for removing the old pan, it's better to use a ziz wheel or a jigsaw. Just make sure you know what's on the other side before you start cutting. It's real easy to slice through a brace. Order the new pan before you cut out the old one. That way you don't run the risk of cutting out too much material.

I had a complete trunk kit installed in my '67 but I did not do the work.
It looked pretty labor intense.
I used a year one 3 piece pan w/all braces and lower extenions and inner wheel wells.
It all turned really nice but did take the body man some time to line it all up and do the welding. If I remember he clamped the pieces together than drilled through the braces & panels then stitch or spot welded up the drill hole thus welding all the panels at once.
When finished you [I] couldn't tell it was ever replaced top or bottom.
