I'm ready to strip the paint of of my body. Right now it has the original paint with a primer over it. What is the easiest/best way to get to bare metal without making a big mess. I can already tell that body work is needed on the passenger side rear quarter. other than that it is pretty solid.

I used aircraft paint stripper on the pieces I could remove from the car, and 60 grit paper in the DA sander on the parts I could'nt remove. It made a huge mess but I had the car stripped in less than 3 nights. Once the paint is off the fun begins.......

Gap1 is right, but do yourself a favor and use a good air filter mask and a good pair of long rubber gloves. I may be overly sensitive to the paint stripper but when I get splatter on my skin each spot feels like a wasp sting.

I stripped my el camino with chemical stripper. I'll never chemically strip another car. It took a long time, the fumes are noxious and it made a big mess. My car had been painted twice over the top of the original paint. I think it took me about 4 or 5 gallons of stripper to finish the job. If I had to do it over again I would send the car out to get media blasted.
