Considering a 4L80e trans, from a private party in Florida. Appreciate suggestions on freight companys that you've been satisfied with. If I recall correctly, somewhere I read .... a 4L80e, less converter, weighs around 175lbs. Sound close? Thanks

Brain,
Why a 4L80E?
A street/strip 700R4 will work just fine with your new small block. :D
Check these guys out, they are local and very good. They are my supplier for custom transmissions.

Chris,
Besides the ole Elky, I have an inherited 70' 307 Chevelle, that my dad bought back in 1970. Been in my possession since 93' and sitting since 95'. Planning a 496/4L80e combo for that vehicle. Want the strength of a 400 and OD ..and be done with it. Will sell Elky at some point, w/o the 385, probably with a mild engine.... and down size to this Chevelle. I rather end up with one completed muscle car, than having two which are never finished. Plus, I need some space.
Highly considering Edelbrock ovals, as is Scott (blue bb Nova @ Denton.) What kind of pricing can you get on those heads?
I'll definitely be at Denton in April, with Elky ...or if up and running, this bb Chevelle.
