i was replacing a tail light (turn signal, etc.) bulb in my '72 el camino. the old one disentegrated upon removal. i have been trying to put in an 1157 replacement bulb but it dont want to go in right. it inserts but then wont do the partial turn to lock in. is my assumption to use an 1157 wrong? that is the correct bulb isnt it?

Make sure you have the little nubs on the bulb lined up correctly. One goes in deeper than the other.

well i ended up finding an old bulb in the garage that worked fine in there. i noticed it was slightly smaller and rounder than the new 1157 i was trying to put in. i think the bulb was interfering with the socket and not going in far enough to allow rotation in the little slots. but, i have a feeling that this old replacement i popped in there may not last very long. it is probably a factory original that i removed from a parts car years ago. is there a better bulb to use on the market for the el camino tail light?
