Is it OK to run water in a alum. headed motor for extended periods of time?
I was under the impression it was OK, but now after talking to some locals it may not be good for the motor.
Opinions?

I sure hope so, my 2002 monte with 163,000 miles has aluminum heads!
Do you mean water only? Even so, I can't imagine it being a problem unless you have water with a high mineral content. And that would be bad for any part of a cooling system.

water provides for corsion. I was not aware that it caused that much. I have been running straight water for 6 months!

As Long as you used an additive like "Water Wetter"(or any of the other brands)
no damage should of happened...straight water will kill the water pump too, since water is a horrible lubricant.
