I cannot imagine how that car rides or moves. It would be interesting though.

lol, alot of power for a corvair. Werent they known as little slow cars in their day with 6 cylinders? I would imagine the rear engine would help them handle well, except that bigblock probably throws it way off. I dont really know much about this car though. Lose the ss stripes and its a perfect sleeper. I still think wagons are the best sleepers though.

There is a big following for Corvair V-8 conversions. Most give up the back seat though. Quite a shoehorn job with that one.

Am I honestly the only one here that doesnt like Corvairs?

Everry where I go people chat em up and every time I look at one all I can think is "What the HELL do they see in that car?"

Not intended to knock guys that own em or love em but I just wonder what you see there that I dont. I do understand that I am in the severe minority but can someone explain the love for them to me?

Explain to me why old volkswagon bugs & Vans are still popular and i think you'll be close to your answer.

it blows me away how many old rusted out late 60's and early 70's buses and bugs are still running around here. I could count at least 10-15 a day still on the road as daily use vehicles!

Cracks me up when you see one covered in enviro-wacko-treehugger bumper stickers, yet its belching out black & blue smoke as it chugs down the road...
:) Classic

personaly i like them, the style, the way they handled with modern tires, but hemmings did an artilce on them recenty, and as usual our memories are fonder than reality, 0-60 14 seconds, 1/4 mile 22 seconds at like 68 m.p.h. and the turbo models weren't all that much quicker, i think they got one into the 17's.

i owned several, but i could swear they were more traffic friendly than that, but like i say, memories are usually sweeter than reality, remember by all artilces i've read, a stock ls6 ran low 14's-high 13's. i know today with modern ign., tires and a good tune, they'll run a lot harder, but go look at f.a.s.t. times and you'll find they aren't much faster, and that's with bored engines and all kinds of little tricks, they run solid 11's, a time that used to fall out of everybodies mouths, when these cars were new, but now we know better.

i was actually looking for a vair recently, but then i read that hemmings article, and i just killed the dream.....

Ask Don Yenko, the first Yenko Stingers were Corvairs.

True but at the same time if folks into muscle cars and such rarely, if ever, come up to me and say "Wow, did you see the deal on that old VW bus! Man, I want one to trick out and make into a sleeper! Those things are awesome!"

If they did my response would be the same as it is for the corvair crowd - "What the hell do you see in that thing?"

My buddy owns a light blue corvair. I've driven it, rode in it, etc. Every time I get out of it I ask him the same "What the hell do you see in this thing?" By the looks of every hot chick we roll by in that POS they're thinking the exact same thing.....then he wonders why they always decline to offer for a ride. :D

I knew it might ruffle feathers.

But whats your answer? The raw power? The beutiful body lines? the pure "cool" factor of driving one?:o That you can buy a "Nader was wrong" shirt and safely wear it because you love or own the car?:p

I used to drag race my '64 Corvair. It had 110 hp and 4 speed, but a rear gear that allowed me to go thru the lights in 3rd gear. Not too good, but the et's were 17.75 most of the time. A switch to a 3.73 gear might have helped a lot. Fun car to drive.

Nope, I don't like them either, but I'm weird sometimes. To each his own though. I have a buddy that lives in VA that has one, and he said to me, "I just don't like Chevelles". So, I told him, "I just don't like Corvairs". So, we drank a beer and started putting his car back together. :)

I'm in the Corvair love camp.

1. Best production vehicle styling to ever come out of a GM studio! Even the 4-doors look good.

2. Slot-car handling with proper wheels/tires/shocks.

3. Light-weight car- many benefits.

4. Unique- not everybody has one.

5. Winter traction that puts 4x4s to shame.

6. GM reliability and cheap parts prices when you need 'em.

7. Fun to watch people's expressions when you load front trunk with stuff.

Of course there are downsides too.

1. Potential for many, many oil leaks.

2. Everything must be just so to have a decent heater in there.

3. Mine's getting all rusty. :(

4. Front trunk means no oversize items. Luckily it's huuuuge!

Im not a really big fan of Corvairs but I still do like them. Those Corvair Vans and the Pickup model are certainly unique though.

Like them or not. I still think that Ralph Nader should be taken out and given a good beatin for that whole debacle.
