Hi,
I just joined tonight and posted one on the body forum. I have a 1971 chevelle that has a spider web / checking condition. The laquer paint was applied to all new sheet metal in 1984. I am asking for help to know how to approach body shops with the right questions. Glad to have found this site.

Hi. I have that issue myself with an older restoration.. Everyone who sees it says that it has to be taken down to bare metal. Now mine is cracked, Im not sure if thats what yoiu are refering too, but thats the general concensus. good luck phil

Thanks for the reply. I assumed that the paint would need to be removed to bare metal. The cracking/checking does not look so apparent from a short distance but up close it is easier to see.
I want to prepare on what to expect from body shops and how to ask the right questions as this is too important to me for a mistake. My son is going to graduate next spring and I am hoping to have new paint in time. A favorite time for him is to cruise with dad.
