: ? about a Classic car dealer in Clearwater FL.
450HPChevelle Oct 30th, 06, 6:38 PM Hi Guys,
I have a friend that is interested in a 72 Chevelle SS that is located in Clearwater FL. at a place called "Golden Classics"
Has anyone delt with this business or know of anyone that has had any "good or bad" experiences with them?
I was wondering if someone that lives nearby could check this car out.
Here's the link: http://goldenclassics.com/cgi/displayphotos.cgi?stockno=1882&year=1972&make=CHEVY&model=Chevelle%20SS%20&photodirectory=1882&thumbnail_url=L11.JPG
My friend has a 70 Mach 1 that he's planning to sell so he can buy a Chevelle! He finally decided it was time to buy a REAL Muscle Car!:D
Thanks for you help,
Brian
Andy69 Oct 30th, 06, 7:03 PM looks like some nice stuff but JEEEEZ bend over and grab your ankles
Tony1967 Oct 30th, 06, 7:21 PM Hi Brian,
I sold some artwork to the guy that owns the dealership at Super Chevy in Bradenton last February. Seems like a decent guy. I have never been to the dealership.
I believe they have been around a long time - like over 20 years.
Tony
1BLACKHARLEY Oct 30th, 06, 7:55 PM he's definately not shy when it comes to pricing........
Doug Garland Oct 30th, 06, 8:47 PM Looks like the place I went to last year, and paid $10 to view the inventory / tour the museum. All I can say is , be very careful, and do your research on the car before you buy anything, be-it from here, or someplace else.
Dean Ciampi lives nearby, you might try him, and see what his schedule looks like.
ringermt Oct 30th, 06, 9:39 PM His feedback on ebay is suspect. Here is a link to the ebay auction for the car you are referring to.

chevelledude71 Oct 30th, 06, 10:34 PM You have any pictures of the Mach 1?
450HPChevelle Oct 31st, 06, 12:09 AM Hi Wallace,
I'll see if I can get a couple for you. :)
ringermt Oct 31st, 06, 12:10 AM It appears to me he has had a few issues with the condition of his cars from previous sales. I am not saying the car in question is not worth looking at, or that the dealer is a bad guy. Just be careful is all.
ACES-70 Oct 31st, 06, 12:12 AM Danny is a pretty good guy, I have known him for years,,, BUT,, go look at the car in person, good guy or not, DO NOT trust anyones eyes except yours.
HoodRat Oct 31st, 06, 12:53 AM a little of topic, but how do they get that car to sit that high up?
Stickman Oct 31st, 06, 3:59 PM 450HPChevelle... I HAVE dealt with GC... Was not a pleasant experience. Told one thing, sold another. Get / verify ALL casting numbers and everything in writing. Unfortunately, dealers won't let you start pulling parts for verification, so some facts must be taken at face value. Once the check is cut, good luck getting a reply. A firm handshake and conversations with Sales reps won't hold up in a court of law... my bad for trusting humans. ( Did I already say get it in writing ?? )
Blown 70 Oct 31st, 06, 5:36 PM Looks to me like they are asking "top dollar" for a "restored", "numbers matching", "well documented" 72 Big Block Super Sport.
But instead are selling a "repainted" car with quarters replaced from rust
(but claim the rest of the car is solid?)
No Numbers (but claim they were unintentionally removed)
Dont seem to have any original documentation.
And first and foremost they are a Muscle car dealer which means they couldnt tell the truth if they had too.
Several negative feed back statements about cars not being what was represented.
Tell your friend to keep looking, Try to find a car from a private party. :beers:
66 Chevelle Bob Oct 31st, 06, 6:11 PM I've been in there looking while on vacation this past summer. He has some nice rides but be very careful and make sure they put it on a lift. These dealers are ruthless. I got a royal screwing from David Witt at Southern Motors in Pontiac, MI. I still have trouble sitting. He's one of the best talkers but unfornately I didn't do my homework and trusted him like a fool. I couln't sue him since he was not within my state and it would cost big bucks-as he knew that. So-A word to the wise-If you don't have enough knowledge of Chevelles-hire a pro to inspect it. It's well worth the $200 in the end. Or you may get it in the end..!! Good Luck..!!

I appreciate it...
BlackCircleBoy Nov 1st, 06, 1:50 AM I have to say there are a couple of places in fl that ive heard not so good things about buy one thing get somthing else looks can be deceiving and price somtimes is jaked more so then the car is truly worth . and this is in one of those on the lists. you have to remeber alot of cars at theses places are on consingment and dealers go buy what the private party tells him, just be carefull.
Chris R Nov 1st, 06, 2:57 AM I have never been a big fan of buying a classic car from a dealership like that. Looks to me like they are just another one of your typical cash in type of dealership. I also say run, far, far, away.

Good advice....no experience with those guys but it seems most classic car dealerships misrepresent what they sell and ask alot for it....especially if it's a car with SS badges on it...seldom IMO do they investigate to determine if it's a true SS car or not, they just think because if it says "SS" on it, then it must be.
Now if I could ever find time to stick some "SS" badges on a '76 Chevette and trade it in, maybe they'd be all over it like white on rice thinking it's the real McCoy....:clonk:
oldtimebaseballfan Nov 2nd, 06, 8:37 AM I was going to trade my 72 GS 455 Stage 1 Riviera in on a car they had.
They quoted me a price on my trade. Then, when it was time to make the deal happen, they dropped their price on my trade by $5,000.
I will not be doing business with them again.
R_Peters Nov 6th, 06, 2:55 PM I bought a '70 SS from them 4-5 years ago & had a good experience. They are not the dealer who charges $10.00 to enter the showroom....that is Classic Corvette in Tarpon Springs.
Still always best to look at the car yourself...

I would have told the scumbags to go pound sand after that one.
