There is a ton of music available on the net, but:

I'm looking for a place where I can download music of decent quality, that is 100% legal (meaning the artist gets some compensation, no p2p services), isn't full of spywhere, and doesn't somehow limit your usage of the file, ie, how many times you can burn it, etc. They would also have to be trustworthy with my credit card, paypal, etc.

Does such a place exist?

Yeah, flame suit is on but it works and provides everything you ask about.

I agree, I tunes is what I use. I tried a few of the P-P sites back in the infancy of music downloading, but found them to be nothing but trouble for your system. Also the nice thing about I-tunes is that there are a ton of shows that now send their shows to I-tunes so you can download your favorite show.

Never tried it on another device myself, had iPod for a while. CD burns work just fine though on any deck.

if you already have an mp3 player you might want to look into weather or not you can put your music files on your current mp3 players software. since itunes is free though just download it and put a cd or something on it and try putting them from the itunes library to your current mp3 software. if it works you are golden. But if you do have an ipod itunes is most deffinetly the way to go.
