Anyone had any exsperience lately with the steel 2 inch cowl hoods for 66 chevelle?
I done a search and found out that Goodmark was supposed to retool the cowl hoods for 66 about a year ago. So, has anyone tryed the new ones yet?
Thanks in advance for any input!

Yep. I have one as we speak on my 66. General fit is good. Needed an little smoothing up around the nose area. And the bolt holes for the front trim needed to be slotted lower for the trim to fit.... I've been happy with it...Sure makes the car better

It sounds like Rick has the original version of the hood. I have one as well with the exact same problems. The fit is good on the sides & rear but the front is poor. The drivers side front has a gap that is too big between the hood & fender. The holes for the chrome strip are not drilled properly - they have to be filled & new holes drilled. The gap between the hood & grill is larger in the center than on both sides. None of these items are that bad or noticable, but it bothers me to have a new part that just isn't right. Goodmark is re-tooling and it is supposed to be available Jan 05. Mine will be for sale (cheap) when the re-tooled ones are done.

Yea, mine was one of the very first ones...

I got mine thru a local Goodmark dealer (friend).
Not sure of the price now, sees it was about$375.

That sure bites.
I agree when you purchase somthing new it should be correct.
How do you go about knowing if you are getting a hood that is from the retooled die or earlyer version.
I know you could probably tell after you received it, but how would you know if you are just going to order one?

I have a local Goodmark distributor who was up front with me about the hood before I bought it. He is a good guy who has always treated me right. He told me last year that they stopped making the initial "bad" hood & they are not available anymore - even if you wanted one. So if he is correct, if you were to purchase one direct from Goodmark, it should be the retooled version. Now I supposed there might be some old ones in stock somewhere. Check to see if there is a distributor in your area.
