I just drained, and cleaned mine, then wire wheeled it. Shot it with DP, and it turned out excellent.

I painted my old tank the same color as my body using standard painting techniques and Urethane paint. I then hung it with polished stainless steel straps. It looked awesome. If you want a restored look, I believe the tank should be galvanized. I think the Eastwood Company has galvanized paint. Or you could spring about $150.00 for a new one
I wondered about clearing a new tank? I bought a new Canadian made tank for my 69 and it looked good for a little while and now has some oxidation on it. I would recommend clearing it, if possible, to try and avoid that, but I don't know if you could clear it? I don't know how I'm going to get rid of the oxidation?

If it's in good shape why not paint it. We used Eastwoods tank tone product on the outside of the sons' 66 Nova tank. Just wirebrush to prep then spray the tank tone product on it. Look great!

I cleared mine, looks great and has held up fine for the last 6 years. Just touch-up clear at that, right out of the spray can.

Eastwood should have everything that you may need.
