If it needs rebuilt a couple grand, if it does not need rebuilt probably closer to 4. Just based upon what I've seen in the recent past, certainly economy geographic location, documentation for machine work etc will all factor. So essentially whatever someone is willing to pay and what your willing to accept. JN

If I end up buying a Chevelle that doesn't have the 396 in it, I'd be looking for one to put in it. I've got my eye on one but doesn't look like the person will be responding until after Halloween.

Are you planning on putting it up for sale?

Bare block is worth $800+ at .030 needing to go .060. If U listed it on ebay wouldnt be surprised to see it go for 1000-1200 range.

any bigblock is worth over a $1000 but 60s dated 396 should be worth atleast 2k

I sold one on craigs list for 1,400 three months ago. The add was only up for two days and was just the short block and intake, no heads. It had a date code of Jan. 27 '65 and was for a vette though.

I would buy two at that price. sadily every 962 block i find for sale that needs to have machine work goes north of 1500:sad:
