Anyone ever restored old license plates?
Any ideas would help.

I just a pair myself for $20 from a dealer who was asking alot more for others in better condition. After I got them I discovered that the DMV (or whoever) has to look them over and approve them. Mine are dis-colored but in otherwise great condition. The 1969 plates in Texas were the first to have the reflective paint on them. Mine won't reflect a million candle power spot light, so I might be in trouble. If yours has plain 'straight' paint, I'd bead blast them carefully and spray paint them. Some people with a light touch take a roller to the numbers, being carefull not to touch the lower surfaces. I'd mask them.

You may be in luck with the reflective coating as it is just fine glass beeads that are dusted onto the paint while still wet. It it is used on pavement paint. A company that does parking lot striping may be able to supply you with a cupful (enough to do many plates).
