Hi guys...I know these get old. Stuggling with a decision. Inspected a 69 Ss 396/325hp t400 auto car yesterday. Don't have any pics, but will describe it for you. I can get it for 28k. This guy has had it in storage for the last 20+ years. he bought it from original owner in 1980. It has protecto, but no known build sheets yet as he never looked. The car is a Garnet red (repaint not so good from 1981) with Parchment int (now black and nice GM stuff) with white top (now black) this guy switched it when he bought it do to the white being dirty etc and he liked black. He buys these cars and sits on them as bank accts and you'd all drool if you knew what else he had just sitting under covers. He's selling this one due to out of space and doesn't want it to wrought anymore. few small bubbles under paint in areas by 1/4s by top molding etc..nothing bad. The worst part is the orignal lady that owned it hit something in the drivers rear 1/4 and there is a patch panel done in the 70's that looks good. The motor has never been out of the car as far as we can tell nor any of the drivetrain. Needs to be stipped apart and painted etc in there. Fires right up still....told him to turn it off though since he hadn't changed the oil in a while. The tires have flat spots etc...
Now the good stuff. Factory AC (all there but doesn't work right now..no belt on compressor) factory AC and power windows. Guages (5000 redline) and Speed warning and Rosewood steering wheel. I figure the car needs new 1/4 panel (replace whole thing) and paint...probabaly about 7k? Also the underside to be gone through with bushings etc. Then I'd want the car back to white with white top...so maybe invest 10-12k into it....is this car worth it?? It's a lot of money and I don't want to make a mistake. Need quick replies as he has people flying in to see it.Found a few pics from ad. Not good, but they're pics.
Thanks!!
Mark

I don't know, 28K seems like a lot of green for a car thats been sitting that long with the issues you mentioned. Sounds like a nice car with lots of potential though.

Yea I think 28K is too much for the time its been stored. You can get a better car than that off of ebay.

Yeah, especially with those BIN deals for $6,500.00!!!

Seriously though,if I'm going to even consider spending that kind of money for a car, I'll pay a qualified and reliable expert to get his hands dirty right next to me as we check the thing out from top to bottom to make sure it is what its claimed to be. And for that price, it better correct, tight and original down to the exterior and interior colors. But thats just me.

I know you said the car has a protecto, but have you verified the options, and verified the engine matches? I only ask because you said it has a 5K tach, let us be the ones to tell you no such deal with a factory BB 325/350 HP cars get 5500 tach, the L78 gets a 6K, the 5k redline is for small block cars ONLY!! Take someone with you who knows 69's, that's a lot of green for a project car. JN

Whao
not so fast.
You better have someone look it over for you.
I see a bunch of stuff wrong just in those four pictures.

If I knew where you were, maybe I could look at it for you. I'm in Central CA
I have no interest in buying it as I already have my own 69 convert.

email me if you want an honest assessment

The car is on Craiglist.com under Los Angeles. I'm pretty sure the tac was 5k, but I may be wrong. The motor and the protecto plate have the correct numbers and end in JK. If he even entertains the thought of 25k, I'll take pics and post each area of the car for verification by the experts (you guys). Not gonna jump in blind.
