I am going to put a cowl induction hood on my 72 chevelle but i only want to put the hood on for now and not the actual cowl induction. what parts do i need for the hood itself and not the actual cowl induction mechanisms.

if you are talking about a non-functional cowl hood, all you should need is:
Hood
Pair of hinges and springs
Hood Molding
Hood Latch assembly, if you dont already have one
Hood pins, plates, wires and the metal post that comes through the hood.

Hope this helps.

(to no name),
As mentioned, if you just want to start with the bare hood, all you need to do is bolt it onto the hinges and swap the hood latch stud from your existing hood. Although you will have a big rectangular hole in the rear of the hood. The chrome trim at the rear of a flat hood will NOT fit a CI hood (although the domed hood and CI hood rear trim is the same). If you want the outer flapper door installed, you will need the door, mounting brackets, bolts, special shouldered bolts and some washers to use for spacers. If you want the flapper to open/close, you will also need the vacuum pod, bracket for the pod, vacuum hose and special check valve. All of the above will provide everything for a complete external appearance, EXCEPT for the hood pins. ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL CI hoods (NOT the plain domed hood) come with the holes punched for the hood pins and round plates. Thus, if you install a CI hood WITHOUT including the pins/plates, then you will also have the holes up front (which will look kind of cheapo). If you start out installing all of the above----------------------including all the parts to make the outer door function properly, get it painted to match, then it will look killer. I have a COMPLETE CI system on my 70 Malibu conv and it changes the whole personality of the car (I've also replaced the weak 307 with a healthy 400 to go along with the new hood).

And by the way, the CI hood and the SS hood (plain domed WITHOUT the rear hole) are TOTALLY different hoods. You cannot convert the domed hood into a CI hood. There are no holes in the domed hood and there is none of the underside ducting for the CI function or for the CI air cleaner to mate with.
