What would be a good price to pay for one? I'm going to have a look at one this afternoon. 350 automatic. Mileage unknown as yet. Needs a new top and some other work, but looks like a fairly clean driver.

It really depends how nice the paint is and the condition of the engine compartment/interior/ and mileage.

Last year there was a orginal owner selling his 25th annivsary vette with 16,000 miles in almost perfect condition. He had trouble getting 16,000 for it.

With that being said and you said it needs a new top and other work I wouldn't go much over 12,000

Last 74 Vette roadster I bought paid $7500 in 1996, fresh from the paint shop, gleaming white with saddle tan interior. Had to put the emblems back on and clean the overspray off, but it was original and ran great, drove it for about 6 years then sold it for a profit. I really liked it, was a lot of fun even with the smog laden small HP engine. They weren't much on performance in those years, but they looked nice, the ride was typical Corvette (harsh).

I have seen those body style mid-70's Vettes sell for around 7K-13K for the typical driver.

Value depends on the car itself, you can buy the so-called "bargain" Vette Convert. in these years for less than 10k, then spend 20k or more on it to make it nice. I've seen this era ragtop do more than 30k on ebay, but they have to be pretty perfect to bring that kind of cash. The 74 & 75 Convertibles are some on the lowest production, rarest corvettes ever made, but they are under-discovered at this point, but are said to be the next to jump in value over the next 10 years. I sold a 74 BB roadster in '05 that was decent for 20k and currently have a 75 4 speed ragtop driver that is a 7-8 out of 10 listed on this site for $14k, hope this helps.

Agreed. I paid $6500 for a 73 Stingray, fair paint but perfect interior. Sold it for $6500 a year later regrdless of the ads I saw in the Autotrader for 12k and up for a similar car (dreamers). You WILL be spending money on it (vettes are $$ pits), but for a cheap driver that looks cool they are Ok.
Many parts are available reproduction like we have for the Aboodies which really helps.
