I need to replace the body bushings and I'm concerned about how to do this properly. Does anyone know of an instuctional guide, or article on how to perform this without killing myself. And is there any special concerns on lifting the body of a covertible ? And my last question is polyurethane vs original rubber, several of the catelogs caution about the stiffness of the polyurethane, any tips on selection?

Frank. If your just replaceing bushings on a complete car. You can use the one side at a time technique. Soaking the nuts for a few days with rust penetrator solvent. Then with a 2X4 jack up one under side at a time. If your doing a body off
care must be taken to minimize body flex.
ie. bracing welded or bolted in across door openings and from the center to the rear wheel well area.

There is some good meteriel in the archives on this issue.
Good luck

I just did mine last thanksgiving. It is really easy. I used a 4x4 under the rockers.

The hardest part is getting the bolts out without breaking any or spinning a nut.

I got rubber bushings. I would almost recommend getting poly bushings, but they might be too stiff from what I heard.

Make a note that the bushing that goes under the door is different from the rest. If the kit you get has them all the same (like the ones I got from muscle factory) you will need to modify two of them. They are pretty easy to modify if you do get the one-size-fits-all kit. The "step" in one end just needs to be turned down a little (I did it with a drill).

good luck,

I replaced mine before I put the body back on. My web site picture might give you some ideas on how I braced the door openings and lifted the body. I cant' tell from your post if your going to get this involved or not. Jacks and 4x4's would do the job. If you break a bolts you might have to cut a small pie shaped piece to get at the cage nuts in certain places. I used rubber because I heard poly was noisy and makes for a rough ride.
