hey Guys...going to look at a 66 tomorrow (I'm actaully not a 66 guy, but it sounds really good). The car has been rebuilt and sounds like a average restore, but it is a number match all the way back. Now..the color is what gets me. This car is now red, but was originally Aztec Bronze with Aztec Bronze interior!! I've never seen one in person, and I think someone said it was somewhat rare?? Is this true? What should I be willing to pay for this car with incorrect color currently, but no rust and numbers matching. I'd call it a #3 car for now?? Need quick input as I am going tomorrow to look at it. Oh yeah...it's also a 4 spd 12 bolt posi.
Thanks!!

First, Chevrolet did NOT keep track of "how many were painted which color", so no way to determine "rarity."

Aztec Bronze is not the most common color, but its far from being the rarest for an SS... For an SS, IMO, I doubt its even lower than "median" production (out of 16 colors available)... After owning and absolutely loving '66 Chevelles since 1983, I personally have seen alot more "originally" Aztec Bronze SS cars than I have Chateau Slate (silver), Cameo Beige, Sandlewood Tan, Mist Blue (light), Danube Blue (dark), Willow Green or Tropic Tuquoise (dark) .

Prices are so subjective, and really difficult without alot more info (buckets? Console? Guages? tach? Other options? What wheels, what engine (325HP, 360HP or 375HP?)...

Since its now "Red", I assume the interior was also changed from Bronze? While Aztec Bronze is desirable (as of lately), the cost of repainting (assuming the paint is already nice) and redoing the interior is probably not worth the extra "value," UNLESS you want it completely original and want to keep it.

Was rust repaired, and done correctly? Or never rusty?
Several years ago, a neighbor had an AztecBronze/Aztec Bronze '66 SS hardtop, 360HP with a 4-speed, bench seat, original California car that was pretty rusty (especially the cowl area)...

What area of California are you in?

I'm in So. Cal. The car was OK...the red paint was poor quality...very nice original body though. Killer for me was motor turned out to be a 70...this guy had no clue on what was original....was also auto car turned 4spd. Waste of my time. It's 18.5k if anyone wants a non original car that at least is a 138 car with a 12 bolt posi. Dash and steering wheel were still bronze, but int is now red. Not a Bad car, but not worth 18k in my opinion.
