what is a 396 bare block worth. standard bore.no crank,no pistons, no nothing except a bare . standard bore block??

There is one advertised in the recent Chevelle World, I called him and he is asking $250.

Numbers might make valuable to some folks depending on what the motor's original application. Since you don't mention it being a 4-bolt it still might have a casting number that was shared with 4-bolts. Value could be 200-1500 depending on the numbers.

I paid $600 for mine, it was a crack free feshly cleaned block from the machine shop, ready to accept a .030 bore, and it came with all the internals which were already removed and checked, plus intake and heads....

I recently sold a complete 1966 396 long block with its original matching heads and intake still installed for $650.
