: Blacked out bumpers and other trim

I really like the way Wayne Scott's blacked out trim looks.

I'm gonna get a fiberglass front bumper and since I don't know of any fiberglass rear bumpers for El Caminos, I plan to get mine straightened. I'm thinking of just having them strip it so I can prime and paint it black as well.

Opinions?

Has anyone ever blacked out the bumpers and trim?

Does anyone have links to any pictures?

I think it is a neat idea, but difficult to do well. It is easy to go overboard and make the car look goofy.

I want to do something similar with my grill (65 Elky with cowl hood).

What do you think about this scheme? Paint a 65 Elky canary yellow. Make the hood and cowl gloss black. Spray the bed with black Rhino liner. Black interior. Black out most of the grill. Shave all the trim except around the windows. Black out most of the grill.

Looks pretty cool, Rob.

Do you have any shots from the rear?

I plan to leave the headlight bezels and grill trim "chrome". I guess I'll black the bumpers first then see if I want to black out the rest.

SWEET looking Elky, Rob.
What primer did you use? DP90? MS5121?

How long has it been that way?

I'm thinking about the same treatment for my '71 Fodor.

Cheers,
mark.

Chad, I don't have any pics of the rear view yet, but will post it on my site soon.

Mark, It is DP90 over top of a few coats of clear to seal everything. I just finished it a couple of months ago.
