New hood/cowl seal is a "V" shaped solid seal rather than what I though was originally a "L" shaped seal. I don't see how you would install this seal without cutting it, there is no way to install the retaining clips. Or should I plan on splitting this seal length wise, something doesn't add up here.

There is a compressed line on one side of the seal you should be able to pull it apart at this area,i started it with a blade then pulled it apart so i would have a clean start. you will need to position the seal above the holes and mark the on the rubber, i used a piece of hollow brass tubing the size of the holes and filed it sharp to punch the holes.the cut side goes toward the windshield and don't foget the bead of adhesive.

also, you might want to make sure you have the softer of the seals that are on the market..The first one I had was made of much harder rubber, and resulted in my hood not closing properly. I found that soffseal has another seal for '69 that is much softer (more sponge-like)..that solved the problem.

Yes the seal I have is the softer sponge rubber seal. Got it from Ground Up. Think the number is JSS-5075. There is a picture of it in the catalog on page 111. If this is the same seal, doesn't look like it is big enough to split it lengthwise.

If your loooking at the picture in the catalogue page 111 upper right enlarged picture profile you can make out the line i am reffering to. Also i recommend the steel clips, they hold the gasket down better.

Yes that is the picture. So what you are doing is cutting it to form a true V that installs laying it on it's side.

It installs as the picture shows it. looping line indicates where to seperate gasket.

Thanks, now I SEE! Appreciate the help. I find it amazing how sometimes the simplest issues can be the most difficult to comprehend.
