I was browsing thru my Summit catalog and came up on the March pulleys.

They claim they can help you gain up to 15-20 hp. HOW??? I kind of find that hard to believe....is that kind of like chrome valve covers..???

That's why I wanted to ask here to those who have used them....if they're really able to help free up some hp...or are they just some flashy piece of aluminum that "makes you think" you're getting an extra free 15-20hp...? Are they worth their weight in cash?

Also if they are what they say they are which ones are idea for high rpm use? I see they sell the serpentine set ups and then they also sell the under drive pulley kits....?

An underdrive pulley setup will increase power. Actually it takes less power to run the accesories as they will be turning at lower speeds. This frees up some load from the engine that you can then apply to the wheels.

As for the march kits, someone else where answer here on those and which are better for high rpm ect. Good luck, Brett

I don't know about any power gains but I do know I have a 2 belt setup on my car and haven't thrown the belts at 7600 rpm.

I run a full serp. set on my roots blown setup. They sure look great. As far as power, they free up sum with the pulleys but not much ( 5-7 hp ) The serp. belt is nice because of the one belt & clearance issues. Not much room between the crank & blower pulley. On the $$ issue most people do March setups for looks not power increases. Just too expensive.

I am going to need a set of pulleys soon so i wasn't sure if it was worth the time to go to a march set up or not....

If you have a serious perf car and run it alot some of the Hi Polish flashy pulleys out there look good but wear fast ........I prefer to stick to the hard anodized aluminum pulleys for quality machining and no wear issues ......FWIW

You gain power because you slow the alternator and water pump down. Neither good sometimes.

From the dyno work I have seen, it take about 5-7 HP to drive a mech. water pump and I doubt near that for an alternator, so 20 HP???

I had to buy a March crank pulley (v belt) and it was a decent piece.

I've got the March system on my 67. It works great. Yes it's higher priced than the other units, but it's up to each individual as to what there needs are. No problems here.

i'd say its more of a money issue than time...if youve got the spare money, i'm sure youll find the time, they sure look good

I gained about .1 and 1mph in 1/4 (maybe) and that was from spring (-900'DA)to summer (+1900'DA) air (worse conditions).
