Does anyone have pictures of a donor car having it's trunk spliced into their car as one piece??

Shai,
How much are you wanting to graft in?

DG DG,
From the back seat divider panel on out through the panel between the tail lights. Including the inner/outter wheel tubs, trunk extentions, and braces. The entire trunk.

Before you make that first cut you need to plan out the attack. When you whack out the inners, outers and that panel the quarter glass(inner quarter support) bolts too, you now have just removed the entire rear support of that car.

You have NOTHING supporting the weight of the roof and it WILL collasp on you. When it collasps on ya its a friggin son of gon to correct. Dont ask how I know that smile.gif

Before you cut anything get the doors fitted to the car and DONT REMOVE THEM. This way when you start fitting parts you KNOW it fits right instead of kinda thinking it does.
Then you need to weld in some braces to hold the rear of the roof in place.

Try to keep as much crap on the original car as possible that way you can algin the new parts to it. Like I wouldnt remove the package tray, help keep the car square and plus that will give ya something to measure from when installing the new wheel tubs.

If you can I would leave the inner quarter support in place on your car. Those hold up the rear of the car keep it square and would give you something to place the tubs by.

I stole this pic from another post but it shows the inner quarter am talking about.

I think the best way to do it would remove the outer wheel well and install the trunk assembly that way. This way you can install the assembly to that inner support and back half of the floor and package tray.

Once you have it fitting right clamp it, screw it whatever in place for the time being. Then install your outer wheel wells and then quarters.

You'll want to double check the fitment with the decklid, doors, rear bumper whatever would show some misalginment.

The parts car is that solid? That's a big chunk.

I have seen the trunk floor removed from a parts
car, where a section of the inner wheelhouse that supports the trunk was sectioned out.

I'd think about doing in 2 pieces.
Trunk floor with a section of the inner wheel house, and the rear panel between the lights.

Is your body guy gonna do this or are you?

Dave Maphet from Tri State has done several trunks and pans, might wanna shoot him an email.

You definately need to camp out while he doing it and take tons of pics.

My body guy is doing it all. He's done several and they looked super. He only does 68-69 Chevelles mainly.

Yes DG, it's A CHERRY RUST FREE 4 DOOR

My car will look like that, but it will retain it's package tray, trunk opening, sail panels, the piece that the 1/4 window bolts to, and I'm pretty sure it will turn out nice. He is pretty good at what he does. Once he gets the trunk fit and welded in, He will do the 1/4 skins, back window corners and replace the filler panel. Should turn out super.

I don't remember the Post.... but CLIPPING a car is not an uncommon practice ..splicing the roof ( most of the times at the factory seam area, and keeping the 1/4's trunk floor inner 1/4's and wheel houses in-tact.. it's the fitting to the rocker and door jam area and accros the floor.

I am having the same trouble with my 65. I got the car this way and someone said I would not be able to get the parts to fix it and would have to get a donor car. I had to go over 600 miles to get this one. I doubt I will find a donor? any ideas? just I just fabricate what I need to go in there? it is just going to be my daily driver.

Raiderfan,
Can you make the picture bigger? I'd like to experiment with a Dual display!

But yeah, looks like you may need a donor piece. Course, unless you are restoring it, you could fab it up.

Here are some large pictures of the area. I think I am going to just fabricate something in there. Otherwise it will never get done. I went to 4 of the 5 junk yards in a 50 mile radius of my place and found only 1 older chevy and it was a 71 el camino. So I dont think I will ever find what I need around here.
