: New best for last time out
bracketchev1221 Oct 22nd, 06, 8:10 PM Well I'll post the results like everyone else. We had really cool conditions this weekend, and the car ran a new best of 9.32 at 141.37 mph. It also had a 60' of 1.284. I did make it to the third round in the first $5000 race and the second in the second $5000 race. However a new problem popped up, a sticking trans brake solenoid. It happened once it time trials, when the other driver took too long to stage, and then in second round. I had to give a 11.62 to 9.30 headstart and I guess holding it on the brake that long it stuck again. Does anyone have any ideas other than replacing the solenoid? I believe the brake uses other parts in the t-400 other than just a solenoid.
Bob West Oct 22nd, 06, 9:57 PM Congrats on the new best Ray. I can't help with the brake though, I don't have/never used a brake or even a line lock.
JOHN WILSON Oct 22nd, 06, 10:03 PM Congrats, Ray! I know you've been waiting on that 9.3x slip. :beers:
driver Oct 22nd, 06, 10:04 PM Congrats On The New Best!! Killer 60 Ft Times.
VinnyLSS572 Oct 22nd, 06, 11:32 PM Congrats on the new best Ray.Sorry no suggestions on the transbrake solenoid.Cant think of it being anything but the solenoid.I had a decent week at LVD last weekend,I went to the semis in the high stakes gamblers race.

Harold Sutton Oct 23rd, 06, 1:48 PM Congratulations on the new personal best. What were the conditions on your fast day? We had a zero foot air day but my son decided to skip it.
bracketchev1221 Oct 23rd, 06, 2:35 PM Thanks guys. As soon as I figure out how to get the picture off the track photo website I'll post it.
bracketchev1221 Oct 23rd, 06, 2:41 PM ok try this

SmallBlockNova Oct 23rd, 06, 3:11 PM Ray, nice run. One question, does your car twist off the launch, or is it the angle of the picture?
Joe
Rowdy Oct 23rd, 06, 3:21 PM That does seem like a lot of twist, with what looks like an anti-roll bar incorporated out back.
Next time, take off the sunglasses, I'd like to see how big your eyes get, while the hood is obscuring your view of the race track.
bracketchev1221 Oct 23rd, 06, 3:49 PM I think it's the angle of the picture. The car looks straight from behind. I wear the sunglasses because my eyes are actually closed!!!
Sick_66 Oct 23rd, 06, 5:09 PM I wear the sunglasses because my eyes are actually closed!!!
That made me spit soda. :D
JOHN WILSON Oct 23rd, 06, 5:11 PM I wear the sunglasses because my eyes are actually closed!!!
So, the glasses are a back-up for when you can't wear the helmet backwards? :D
bracketchev1221 Oct 23rd, 06, 5:54 PM No I have a blindfold for that. Just kidding, actually I wear them to cut down on the glare of the tree. At night one bulb looks like a big blur to me. I think the car did unload the tires a little on that run. It was starting to get too high, if there is such a thing.
8sec71 Oct 23rd, 06, 6:41 PM Wow, what a 60 foot! I hope I can get with in a 10th of that!
bracketchev1221 Oct 23rd, 06, 7:04 PM I hope so too!! That is a ton of power to put through a stock suspension. Good Luck!! If you can get it to hook it'll fly.
BillyGman Oct 26th, 06, 2:12 AM Congratulations Ray! What a remarkable 60' time you turned. NICE!! How much does your car weigh (w/out driver)??? BTW, have you ever considered the Alf Weibe rear suspension set-up? When I saw a 71 Chevelle at E-town that had that suspension, I was amazed at how straight and hard that car launched, even with a massive wheelie. However, that car wasn't quite as impressive as your car is as far as 60' time, and ET. It was a full second slower than your car, and I'm assuming therefore that it has considerably less power to the wheels too. so I don't know if that would make a difference with the Alf Weibe set-up or not.
Anyway, thanks for those links. Your car looks incredible. Great way to represent our Chevelle obsession!
ToyzRMe Oct 26th, 06, 8:32 AM Ray, I'm definitely NOT a transmission guy but I run a Glide with a Pro Tree brake. I was told that the Pro Tree-style brake uses line pressure to blow the spool valve back and release the brake quicker. The solenoid is then under alot of strain to hold the valve open against line pressure.
When I went to the Pro Tree brake about 10 years ago, I started having problems like yours where I'd have the brake sticking momentarily every now and then.
I replaced the solenoid and the problem stopped. I can't say that it'll help in your case but it fixed mine.
Also, as part of a preventative maintenance schedule, I change out the solenoid at the beginning of each season and I carry a spare just in case.
Those solenoids seem to build a lot of heat when they're engaged for a long time like when you have to set someone out a bunch. I guess it affects them after a while.
Randy
bracketchev1221 Oct 26th, 06, 9:00 AM Thanks Bill for the compliment. Thank you Randy for the trans tip. I have actually already talked to the trans builder and Monday the car is going in to have the trans brake solenoid replaced. He told me the same thing that line pressure should force it open and that he's really only seen them not hold or leak by. But he told me bring it in and we'll pull the valve body and change the solenoid. Also to be sure, another thing I screwed with was that I put a diode in the line lock wire so I can engage the trans brake and line lock together at the same time. I am taking it back out and going with a delay box with a line lock terminal built in. I never had the problem until I put the diode in and this was the first weekend with it.
