I am starting on restoring a 67 Chevelle SS 396 and want to add air and a serpentine drive set up with aluminum radiator with electric fans. In searching for parts, I know ther is a wide price range, example: I can get an aluminum radiator with 2 fans (2500cfm) from Universal parts for $ 550.00, else where you are looking at over a grand. What are some sources for a serpentine set up other than March? It looks like for this car with air and p/s their set up is around 2K. So are there any other good sources for serpentine setups for a 67 396?
Thanks

I like the Street & Performance style the best. The other brands just pack everything all in front of the engine between the outsides of the valve covers. It looks strange to me when its all packed inboard, in a big engine compartment like any given muscle car.
I like the look of the outboard style where the alt and A/C compressor are on the outsides of the valve covers making it look more spread out.

Do a search on this subject. There have been a few discussions recently. First, the GMPP setups won't fit a 67. I have one I'll be happy to sell you - that's how I know! The PS pump hits the steering box. I also tried adapting a SBC setup with the aluminum brackets - had it all together and looking sweet...only to discover that I could not get any kind of fan to fit (it used a long water pump). If you want a "true" serpentine system (1 belt drives everything) I think you have to look for a setup that uses a short water pump. Check this thread.

Thanks for the information, I am still researching this and I plan on using an aluminum radiator with electric fans.
Thanks

Ok, I have read through the post and it seems that the major issues with a serpentine conversion is the water pump.My question here is what determines a long or short neck water pump on a 396? The engine we have is just a block, heads and intake, no other parts. So we will have to add a water pump, the car will have air added. Being new to chevy's can I put either water pump on the car, so that I can add aluminum radiator w/electric fans and a serpentine kit?
Thanks

Either will work. I think Chevy used the short water pumps thru 68 on BB Chevelles. Most ( not all) serpentine setups use a long pump (measured from the face of the block where the pump mounts to the fan flange). As the listed thread states, there are clearance issues with 66-67s and long pumps. If you use a 'true' 1 belt setup, with AC and PS, you will need a reverse rotation pump. The thread lists some setups which will work, as well as some reasons others won't.
