Hello all, I'm new to the forum but not new to the A body, but I've only had experience with the 72 model year(2 Monte Carlos and one Chevelle). I recently got an absolutely all original 1964 Malibu SS with the 230 inline six. I'm wanting to upgrade some things but I don't want to perminately alter anything. Here's what I'm looking at... I have a complete power disc brake setup off of a 72 Monte (Booster, master cylinder, proportioning vlv, and the complete spindles) would I have to do any cutting or drilling to get these brakes to work? I also have the complete power steering too, I plan on keeping the 230 in it, I want to use the box, but that means I'll need a pump and brackets off another six, From my understanding I should be able to use one from a later 250 found on trucks(anyone know of any other vehicles?) also can I retain my tierods, centerlink and idle arm?. And finally I'm a huge fan of overdrive automatics because the older engines just cant handle Hiway speed RPM with a Power Glide. From what I've read on this forum in order to use a 700R4 I'd have to massage the trans tunnel in my 64 to clear the trans, but has anyone tried a 2004R? I know I'll have to move the crossmember and deal with the lockup but I can handle that. I hope this isn't overwelming for one question, maybe I should have broken it up into installments, but if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it.
THakns,
Justin

the brake set-up off the monte is a good bolt in swap.
use the brackets off a newer 250-6 engine from a nova-impala-chevelle-etc for a bolt in swap, use the pitman arm on the steering gearbox, your other linkages should be ok.
the 200-4R is the way to go as the driveshaft will be the same & it will fit where the glide was fine, the tranny cross-mamber will have to be moved but should line up with existing holes in frame.
good-luck

As I recall, the crank shaft pulley on an inline six is also the balancer. Make sure your balancer has two grooves in it. It may not. A 250 balancer won't work, I think. You would need to research that a little more.

Also check Clifford Research for engine parts, you can put a 292 6 in there for more power. The marine cams on the 292 will cut rpm to 5000 but add more torque. A 200r4 will drop in and lug the 6 so it may be to the next step.

Thanks for all the help. Does anyone know where I can find at least the brackets for power steering for a 230? Does anyone have one that they may be interested in getting rid of?
Thanks again

Justin the brackets from any Chevy six will fit except the integral head engines that came out around 75. As stated before you will need the double groove balancer, double groove water pump pulley and a double groove alternator pulley. You can get by without the double groove pulleys as the power steering pump belt will be in the inboard groove where the alt belt is now. Problem with that is the belt doesn't ride in enough of the pulley on either the alt or the pump to turn them properly.
