I am planning on doing a frame up restoration on my 71 chevelle and I am going to replace the quarter panels with some full quarter panels and I just wanted to know where I can fine ones that fit best and dont need much work to get them really straight. Where do those people who make show cars get their quarters from??

Either search for NOS ones or use the Goodmark panels. The Goodmark 1/4's are excellent and in my opinion as good as NOS. www.goodmarkindustries.com (http://www.goodmarkindusries.com) I have one of each on my 72 and they are indistinguishable from each other. Pics on my site.

My quarter panel on the passenger side looks strange. Around the wheel well trim, the back side sits down quite aways further than the front side. Only around the trim though. The bottoms and tops look fine.

Ryan, It depend on what you expect from your restoration. If you are doing a limited budget driver, aftermarket palels are OK. But if you are looking for show quality, OEM quarters are the only way to go. To a picky judge or a professional restorer, there is a HUGE difference between OEM and even Goodmark panels. Aftermarket panels are thinner, lighter, lines are not as crisp, corners in the door jam area are terrible, and it will take even a professional many hours to make them indistinguishable from OEM.

Ryan I suggest you do a search on Goodmak quarter panels you will find plenty of good info on them.

Here is my opinion on the Goodmarks. They are the only quarters I would buy nothing else, there is a difference. Buy the full quarters not the half or 95% quarters only the full. You will get a much better fit and finish and you will be much happier with them in the end. Ive installed both NOS and Goodmark quarters on my chevelles. My current project recieved goodmark panels and was very impressed with the fit and finish of them. To test the fit I installed them and fitted them to the car, checked the lines and gaps then removed them and hung an extra pair of NOS quarters that I have. I got the same lines and gaps on both the NOS and Goodmark panels. I did measure a very slight difference in metal gauge but nothing that would even make me worry. They are great quarters an equal to NOS in my opinion.

Now keep in mind NO CAR is built alike so each car will need different mods to make them fit right. That not only includes aftermarket parts but OEM parts as well. No two cars are the same and either is two parts. So some trimming or adjustment is need. The only spot on the Goodmark that needed a mod was the area where the door glass meets the quarter glass. The door gap was a little funky and all it needed was a little hammer and dolly work, about hour it took me. That was the left side no problems on the right side what so ever.

I had no funny looking spots or major reworking, just a hour on one spot. These cars were built when tolernces on gaps was well not on the high list of importance as they are today. Even now at work I still need a slight tweak to make that quarter fit right...Eric

I appologize for cutting into your topic Ryan. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif I just wanted to add something and ask a question so I put it in a topic that dealt with the same body part.

1971SS350 There are two companies out there that make quarters, Goodmark and dyacorn. Dyacorn quartres arent a GM restortion part were the goodmarks are. There is a big difference between the goodmark and the dyacorn. I would only buy goodmark full quarters nothing else period. You buy the half quarters you are wasting your time. It will cost more in the long run to install and alot more time to get them to fit right. Sure 500 bucks for the goodmark might seem high when you compare them to the half jobs that cost 150 but the time involved and the end result is well worth the added cost.

Just call up goodmark, everytime Ive called them they have sold them to me, I didnt have to buy them through year one or any where else. If you look through their website they list all the prefered dealers by state. I have many goodmark sheetmetal parts on my car, everything came in a goodmark box with a label saying goodmark, if it doesnt have that label then it isnt a goodmark product.

You want a good looking quarter buy the goodmark full you will not be disappointed...Eric
