Im getting my new fenders and hood tomorrow and I will be spraying the primer to these puppies! My Final color is not decided but it will probably be a medium blue and silver shceme. Im thinking some kind of PPG, high build light gray? Whats there primer run also? I am guessing around $60-70 for a gallon?

DANG. Ok I called my place here in town and its going to be a couple hundred bucks, well for the one I was interested in NCP-280 Which is a sandable and this price is with a hardener, I didnt know primers needed that :(

So whats good to use on new panels? That isnt a fortune, if im going for the good stuff on paint, BC/CC PPG, should I go all out with primer? Or will I get into trouble using just some normal stuff?

A couple of coats of a good urethane (or iso free "urethane type" primer as NCP is) would be the best way to go in my opinion.

In a production shop it would be common to simply sand that "E" coat primer (I hope your new parts have a real "E" coat, most do) and urethane or epoxy seal it prior to paint. That is basically what was done at the factory on just about any production car.

But, I feel a couple of coats of urethane is much better. In fact, some surfacing may still be needed, even though they are new parts. The urethane should be enough to take care of that for you.

If you go the NCP primer route get NCP271/270 or NCP250 I believe the number is. Dont waste your time with the 272 or 280. Unless you live in a VOC area and NEED that 280.

Other good choices would be k36/38. I prefer K38 over K36

Hey Eric how did you say to check the new panels for a true E-Coat again?
Thanks guys.
