I need a second opinion on camshaft selection. I'm putting together a beater motor for my car to get it running, then later on down the road I'll have my engine guy build me a good forged stroker. I have a 350 that appears to be a goodwrench motor...I got it out of an '83 van. It's an 010 4 bolt, cast crank and all stock. I have a set of sportsman II's, 64cc, angle plug, fully cnc ported and the valves are 2.05x1.60....They're going on the motor. I was leaning towards a hydraulic cam just because I'll never have to adjust valves, and I really wanted to get a Comp Cams K-Kit because it comes with everything, but I'm open to anything. I've also been thinking about a solid as well...I know a lot of guys here like Lunati's, and I don't know if a voodoo would be the way to go.....Well, let me know what you think.....I was thinking about a Comp XE284 cam or Lunati 30113 or 07102 or even an Isky 201284/6 (284 Mega)...I know someone here has the 268 voodoo with a 108LSA...How's it sound?...I'm guessing you called them and had it custom ground?...I just want to go 12s with this combo until I have $$$ to build something good...The less money I can spend on this beater motor the better...

Here's the vehicle info...3000stall, th350, 4.10s, 30"tire, about 3250w/driver...It would have about 9:5:1(8:5:1 with 76cc should be about 9:5:1 with 64cc?) ... I have 3 intakes available...A Victor Jr., a Weiand X-Celerator, and a Torker....

Most of the cams you've mentioned will really need a lot more than a 9.5 CR.
Consider something in the Voodoo 60103 range at max.

Well I also have another motor I could use...It's a 331(2 bolt 350 block, .030 over with a lg. journal 327 crank)...That motor supposedly has 10:5:1 compression...It's also all cast as well...Do you think that would work better?

Isky's 264 mega should run great in a 9.5 to 1 CR. motor, imho...

you could run a Isky 280 mega and install it 4 degrees advanced to get the cylinder pressure up a little better and run some 1.6 rockers to get the lift up to work better with the heads. I know a guy who ran a similar set up but it was flat tops and fuelie heads and it ran low 13`s high 12`s. you have better heads so it should run better. If you put some pistons in it to get the compression up closer to 10-10.5.1 you could run more cam. you might consider running a solid cam too.

This combo with 64cc heads is not going to be 9.5:1. You'll prolly be closer to high 8's or 9 to 1 max. Stock Goodwrench 350's have dished pistons.

You'll be better of not going higher than a 268 Adv. duration cam with that bottom end.

If your second engine is really 10+ CR use that one. But verify compression before cam choice on either engine.
