I need to know if using epoxy prime is hard to work with. I never used it and find it hard to find info. on it . I want to paint my 70 chevy epoxy prime black , i want to go with that FLAT black look . I fining hard to find a flat black paint that has that low gloss so some one told me to try the black epoxy primer. any input would help

it is great for bare metal. and works (sands)good if you dont let it stand for a period of time .it is a great sealer and rustpit cover after you have mediablasted the dark spots away. if you have filler work to do best get it after the epoxy gets seasoned (hard). now lets have them pros tell ya the real answer.

Epoxy primer is easy to use,but you mustt let it dry completey. I use EP789 with PA897 hardener. This is made frome BASF and mixes 4 to 1.

black epoxy primer will work for that look you're after but it will chalk up after about three years of exposure from my experience with it. very durable stuff though, I prefer epoxy as a base.

You might check out Dupont's HOT Hues Hotrod Black HHM-6400 and their Hot Clear Matte Clear
HHC-5300 at www.performancecoatings.dupont.com (http://www.performancecoatings.dupont.com)
They say the hotrod black is a 2K (two part)
flat black.
I have not used these products yet but it sounds
like they may give you the flat finish in a top coat product.

Robert, i was just at my local paint shop today and got a quote on the hot rod black. Here is the breakdown:

HHM6400 Hot Rod Black - $59.40 per quart
HHA6405 Hardener - $28.76 per pint
HHR7075 Reducer - $15.25 per quart

Total quote was $370 for 4 quarts hot rod black, 4 pints of hardener (2:1 mix) and 1 quart of reducer.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a lot for flat black paint. Why not just buy a gallon of black enamel for under $100,some hardener and a quart of flattener? You can make it any % gloss you want.

Here is the tech sheet for Dupont single stage urethane.Go down a little to flattener and it gives you the mix ratio. Just check with your jobber to make sure that you get the right flattener for your enamel. Dupont Chroma One (http://www.michiganpaint.com/files/ChromaOne%20Acrylic%20Urethane%20Single-Stage.pdf)
It will flatten the paint depending on how much you add.It will go on shiny,Just give it a full 24 hrs to dull off.
