I bought a "new" frame from a 69 skylark for my chevelle. It is 150$ delivered. It passed the hammer and screw driver test in the usual rot spots. What I want to know is...first off....I want to get this frame done in no more than 10 days. (done meening...new busings, my old rear under it and POR15ed.) The reason I want to do it so fast is that I dont want it sitting in my driveway for to long. Do I HAVE to sand blast it? I hear POR15 sticks better to rust. This frame has some surface rust and some mud on it, but thats all. No scale, no rott. Can I just pressure wash it? Afterwards apply my POR15. It seems that everyone is sand blasting these days.

What do you guys think?

When I spoke to the POR rep I told him that I was going to clean the frame and then apply the POR. He told me that POR adheres to Rust and that I shouldn't just clean and apply it. He told me to clean it well and then make sure it gets a layer of surface rust and then apply the POR onto it. When the time comes I think that's what I'll do.. I'm sure others will chime in with thier experiences. Hope I helped and didn't confuse you.

I had my frame blasted and it was the best $100 I have spent to date on my car. I then took it to the local car wash and washed it throughly before I sprayed it with POR Metal Ready. Then I painted it with POR semi gloss black and top coated it with Arcylic Urethane. Check out November 3rd (http://www.buffnet.net/~airrj/Picture-of-the-week.html) photos on my website.

I am by no means a paint expert, but the sandblasting was well worth it in my opinion. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Yenko, before you do anything try looking for a place that powdercoats. Althou this is in Iowa but I have 2 places both within a 45 min drive that coats parts for semi's. I friend of mine had his 69 frame and all suspension and other misc parts done for 200 bucks!!! Man that is cheap. I cant recommend POR, used it onced, do I think its the magic cure all-NO. But do know that powdercoating to me is the way go. You cant buy the primer and paint for 200 bucks and wont have the durablilty of coating either
