View Full Version : Finally installed my Eibach ProKit
SleeperBBC Oct 17th, 06, 10:14 PM I have had this kit for over 3 yrs and I finally installed them to compliment the new wheels. I wish I didnt wait. I thought the lowering would make the ride more harsh, but its the opposite. It rides and handles way better and brought it down about 2" all around. It was one of the best mods yet.

Derek69SS Oct 17th, 06, 11:08 PM Beautiful car  The stance and wheels look awesome.
Do you know what the spring-rates are? I'm guessing ~550/135 (?)
Chewy72ss Oct 17th, 06, 11:23 PM Killer stance.
qwk406 Oct 18th, 06, 12:32 AM What kit did you install? How's it ride? looking to make my '69 handle like a slot car without knocking my teeth out.:D
Rick
Dave Oct 18th, 06, 1:27 AM According to their website, Eibach doesn't release the spring rate to the public. I've got the Eibach pro kit on my Chevelle, and love the stance also. Just need to get some real shocks on it, the Les Schwab cheapos ride like a battlewagon.
Brettd85 Oct 18th, 06, 3:36 AM Looks great. I kinda feel like it needs a 1" increase on rear wheel size though. I bet it rides nice.
SleeperBBC Oct 18th, 06, 8:18 AM Its the ProKit 1.3" drop. I have KYB shocks and it rides great. When the 17" wheels were installed with the stock springs, you could feel every crack in the pavement. Now, it just glides. I didnt think I could have the best of both worlds.
As for wheel size, I doubt you would notice 1", but 17" is the only size they come it. I was able to swindle the wheel and tire combo for less that $700.
Derek69SS Oct 18th, 06, 12:45 PM According to their website, Eibach doesn't release the spring rate to the public. If that's the case, that eliminates the possibility of me ever buying one of their kits. How is someone supposed to tune their chassis if they don't know what they're starting with?
The stance is very nice, but I've got specific rates in mind for the '66.

Marcus at SCandC knows the rates, he mentioned them to me on the phone yesterday but I have since forgotten the numbers.

Oh come on Derek! Calculating spring rates is very easy. Excel spreadsheets are your friend!
Joe
Derek69SS Oct 18th, 06, 9:27 PM Oh come on Derek! Calculating spring rates is very easy.True, but I'd have to buy them to find out. :clonk:
Brettd85 Oct 18th, 06, 9:50 PM What color is that? I thought it was black, but looking at it in the sunlight it looks different.
SleeperBBC Oct 18th, 06, 10:05 PM What color is that? I thought it was black, but looking at it in the sunlight it looks different.
The color is a 1972 only code 68 Midnight Bronze Metallic. Looks black in low light and brown with gold flake in the sun. If it ever gets a repaint, the same color will go back on.
Chevelle 6-71 Oct 19th, 06, 11:02 AM Sweet ride. The stance is Bad Azz
yost44 Oct 19th, 06, 9:36 PM you have a problems with your headers hitting the ground?
Dave Oct 20th, 06, 1:40 AM you have a problems with your headers hitting the ground?
I don't, thought that I would, but haven't bottomed out yet.
SleeperBBC Oct 20th, 06, 1:49 AM I havent had it out too much and the season is widing down, but so far no header scrapes. They are pretty low and I worry about speed bumps, but I avoid them when I can. The stiffness also limits the travel. I will let you know when I do some more driving.
4FTTY4 Oct 20th, 06, 2:55 AM great stance. I can't wait to lower mine.
64BeachBum Oct 20th, 06, 10:14 AM Car looks awesome, kinda reminds of what I've got planned 2 inch drop, 18's and an LS1. Keep us posted on that LS1 swap.
Mishney Oct 20th, 06, 2:54 PM That stance is awesome! What color is that?
Big Al's 70 Oct 26th, 06, 12:32 PM Just to let everyone know, I called Eibach and spoke with one of their technicians. On the Pro-Kit, 3856.140, the front springs are linear at 548 lbs. / inch. The rears are progressive starting at 108 lbs. / inch, initially, then progress into 188 lbs. / inch.
I finally got everything (shocks, springs, disk conversion) installed on my 70. I really like the feel of the ride, and the great stopping power of the disk brakes. As you can see, it did drop the ride height just a bit. I really like the stance with the 1.3" Eibach lowering spring kit.
Here are before and after pics of my ride. The before still had factory original springs, even though the passenger side had one loop cut off of it.
bochnak Oct 26th, 06, 12:44 PM SleeperBBC,
Where do you live? I'm in Mt. Prospect. Where did you score those wheels for so cheap?
-Matt
bzack Oct 26th, 06, 9:45 PM I bought the eibach kit aswell for my 71, I installed the rears and still haven't done the fronts, yes I know it kinda makes my car look like its launching all the time but its not too bad because the rear tires are bigger. The reason for delaying the front springs is my headers already bottom out. Recently went over a hill at night, came down and sparks light up my mirror. Amusing to see but if I lowered it with the springs another few inch it would be even worse. Guess just have to be careful if you have long headers, I should have gotten the shorty.
Chris R Oct 27th, 06, 3:06 AM Nice car.
milligsc Dec 6th, 06, 12:15 PM Sleeper- can you tell me what size rims and tires you have. That looks real nice.
SleeperBBC Dec 6th, 06, 3:12 PM Thanks for all of the compliments guys.
The rims are 17x8 with a zero offset. The front tires are 255/45/17 and the rears are 278/40/17.
Nicks406 Dec 7th, 06, 5:45 PM Big Al - i think your car actually looked better beforehand  maybe some new wheels will help the lowered stance.
Mark SC&C Dec 8th, 06, 2:49 PM Lookin good! I love a nice straight black car.
Derek the front spring rate calculates out to betwen 600-650lb/in depending on how you calculate the dead coils. The upper perch isn`t perp. to the lower so it`s hard to be exact. Probably more accurate than many "claimed" rates. ;) The rears are around 175lb/in. and are slightly progressive. Our real world experience with them has been excellent. Very high quality, very consistant. I recomend them to almost everyone unless they have some kind of special needs. If we didn`t have to buy 47 gazillion of them to match Summit`s price we`d sell them in a heartbeat. PS. rates above were calculated from the "big block springs" which Eibach discontinued recently. Oops. Mark SC&C
thunderstruck507 Dec 8th, 06, 3:31 PM your car is very clean and classy
only thing i'd recommend is painting the headlight bezels to flow with the 72 grill, but leave the chrome lip on them

Mark, thanks for the compliment but it ain't black, its brown. Its not that straight either, I just know how to photograph it;)
I would recommend the Eibach's to anyone. I would have never guessed it would ride better than the stock HD springs, but its like night and day. The powdercoating seems very thick and high quality.
Thunderstruck-
I have thought about that, but the Malibu's dont have the black bezels. I like the fact that its a Malibu. In fact, I just found the build sheet on top of the gas tank. Its still has the #'s matching drivetraing with includes L-48 350, M20, 3.31 12 bolt posi, buckets with no console, and HD suspension. So its basically a Malibu optioned like an SS350. There cant be too many like that left.
vrooom3440 Dec 8th, 06, 10:57 PM Mark, thanks for the compliment but ... Its not that straight either, I just know how to photograph it ;)
Still looks very nice. It is times like this that I refer to my project as a good 20/20 car and when they look at me with a blank expression I explain "it looks good either from 20' away or at 20 MPH".
It is rather interesting to note the difference between the spring rate numbers provided by Eibach tech and Mark. Kinda makes you leery of any information you get.
SleeperBBC, the car looks great! I love the color, the rolling stock and the stance. I see that you bought the car on 11/26/03. I have 10 pictures on my computer from November '03 of your car, but I don't know if that was when you purchased it or if the pictures were from the seller. Was your car from Arizona? It has buckets, no console, a 4-spoke wheel and a sweep dash with a few aftermarket gauges discreetly placed. The car was rolling at that time on 5-slot Rally Wheels. Same car, right?

Sounds like the car. A guy named Mike was selling it out of Kentcky. It was on one of those classic car sales websites that I dont think is around anymore.
Is this one of the pics you have?? I drooled over this pic for weeks before I had the car shipped out to AZ.

Or maybe this one. I almost crapped my pants when I saw it under the Excursion.

Sleeper (it's Alex, right?), it definitely is the same car. The pictures I have are different, but it looks like they were taken at the same place where the transport dropped it off.
Like I said, neat car. Here's one interior shot.
chevfan_1 Dec 9th, 06, 11:46 PM I have the eibach kit in my 72 and the rear actually sits lower than the front and the fronts are in the pockets. Its a small block car with aluminum heads.Any way to bring the rear up without air shocks or spring spacers? And they are a little softer in the back than the factory f41 rear springs which actually make the car sit a slight amount higher.

I think you answered your own question there.
