so I've decided to upgrade the steering on my 69 malibu. I've found a grand cherokee box, new pump and a rag joint (uh flexible coupling) from an 84 c10, and plan on reusing the pitman arm from my current power steering set up. is this everything? do I need new washers and seals for the pitman arm? This is my first post but i've been sneaking around the forums for awhile. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Seals are optional.
What kind of PS pump do you have? The Cherokee box will have different hose connections than the original GM box. So you will need either later hoses and pump to go with the later box... or hose adapters from Lee Manufacturing to use older hoses with the later box. A search for "Tom Lee" should get you the details there.

thanks for the info. Luckily I remembered to snag the hoses that came with the steering gear and the pump is a rebuilt unit for a c10 from kragen that I believe has the correct pressure and fittings....
If the seals are optional does that mean I don't need them at all or reusing the old ones is ok? sorry for the basic questions but i've never played with the steering before.

It means that you do not have to take any of the sealed parts apart so if they are not leaking you can opt to not change them.
You will need to remove the pittman arm using a fairly serious puller though.
