Does anyone have any pictures or creative ideas for putting a 1-DIN (normal) sized CD-player into a center console versus cutting up a dash?
I have a convertible car with a nice dash and a restored FM radio. But I really want some better tunes. I am also looking at the "Marine units" that have a wired remote control. But in order toget a display on the remote controller you will end up paying ~$350 for that setup.
So, I'm thinking a center console with a radio in it and some kind of flip-top cover for theft reasons.
Any other ideas?

I personally like the idea of putting the deck inside the glove box. The newer models have a remote so you dont have to lean over to change the station either.

You can stuff it in a tissue dispenser with a flip down face. I got a spare if your interested.

Tissue dispenser? in a '72 chevelle? Send me a picture 67shovel. Have you actually put the radio in one?

This is exactly how I have my CD/Radio setup. 8-track remains in the dash.

Any quick pictures of the radios in the glove box?
Do you just bolt it to the top and drill a hole in the back? My 72's glove box has a 1/2" tray inthe upper portion, do the 70s have this?
The bigger question is: Do you need to have the glove box door open in order to use the IR remote?

No pics, but mine's on the floor of the glovebox with a hole cut in back. 1/2" try stays, and yes the door needs to be open for the remote to work.

68 and 69's have a weird shaped glove box. Had to make a filler/mounting panel for mine.

I think I am going to pass on the glovebox idea. I jsut don't like the idea of having the door down while driving - moreso with a passenger. I'll see if the under dash approach will allow for some kind of consealment for theft reasons.
I just had an idea... My 'vert is a non AC car, so there is a blank panel insert for the center air vents. Maybe I can shoe-horn a radio behind that and have some kind of "flip down" cover? The custom effort would probably equate to the glove box or console idea. I remember there being a larger support bracket behind that area. Time to search my picture archives...
Thanks for the pictures guys! I just need my glove box space for sun screen. :D
