Have you removed your 70 Chevelle body yet?

Hi Ron,

No, I got the gas tank out and took out the 4 rear body mount bolts and then my ADD kicked in and I went straight for removing the windshield and removing the clip before lifting the body. I got some wire last night (150 lb. shark leader) to break the glass seal to remove that glass and I still have to finish removing the clip. It looks like I will be lifting the body the weekend of Dec. 6th. I bought a winch strap that you would use to pull a boat onto a trailer and plan on lifting with that under the engine hoist of course. graemlins/waving.gif

John, I am about to do the same thing as you.I was interested in how you were going to work on the bottom of the floor pans. Are you going to rotate the body a 1/4 turn? If not here is what I was thinking. Use a engine hoist with the strap threw the trunk. Hooked to a 2x6. Raise it up and let hang there. Have 4 stacks of 8"blocks on the 4 corners. 4 4X4s to span the blocks front and back. With some help. Raise the front clip using 1 4x4 in place. This might take a few differed liftings, to get to the right height. Once there. I was thinking on using 2" box tubing (steel) to hook on front and rear of body. With a 2 foot piece of 2" steel pipe welded to the center of the tubing. The pipe would stick out towards the rear and front of body. Look like a T laying down. Reposition the blocks further forwards and backwards from the body so the pipe would rest in the middle of the 4x4s (2 4x4 in use now). Make sure the blocks are high enough. So that the body will tilt and roll across the 4x4s 1/4 turn and then it will be on it,s side.
When the t bracket is laying flat on the floor. Drill a 3/4" hole straight down threw the pipe.
Then when the body is turned a 1/4 turn stick a piece of rebar 2 foot long threw the pipe to hold it from rolling further. Use some help to try this. Might want to strap the short side of rebar to 4x4. Or maybe a wooden prop from the body to floor to keep it from rolling further
This just me thinking out loud. What do you think?
