Looks nice! What specs and what is it going in? If it is going in the 68 stick shift car in your sig,....don't forget to screw in the ball stud in the block before you drop the motor in. It is missing in that pic:)
In addition, if those are ARP bolts with washers for the heads, you headers will probably not fit. You can remove the washers from the lower bolts with iron heads. Just a little FYI before you drop it in.
DRLs68 Oct 16th, 06, 8:35 AM I’m putting this in the 68 Chevelle in my sig. Here are the specs
454 bored .030 over
336781 heads completely gone through
Keith Black Flat top pistons UEM-KB202030-8
Lunati Voodoo 60202 cam
1.72 roller rockers
Summit HEI
I’m getting my Q-jet rebuilt for this motor.

BTDT...It would be MUCH easier to fix that now, it was a PAIN to fix on my car when the motor was in the car.. Good eye :D
Tag Oct 16th, 06, 10:25 AM You must be strong.
DRLs68 Oct 16th, 06, 10:53 AM Thanks for the heads up on the ARP bolts. I'll definitely check header clearence before I drop the motor.
JIM Oct 16th, 06, 11:08 AM 336781 heads
Keith Black Flat top pistons UEM-KB202030-8
What CR does that give you??
hpsherlin Oct 16th, 06, 11:22 AM Ran across the same thing with the headers. ARP bolts and washers holding the heads down. Already put the motor and transmission in though. We had to grind some off the header flanges where they wouldn't hit the bolts/washers. No real big deal. Thought that would be easier than taking all the bolts out to remove the washers.

Rickerwill Oct 16th, 06, 1:08 PM Welcome to the Big Block Malibu crowd! :p I am in the process of getting my 454 in my '68 (307 car) as well.
Let me share something that never would have (and didn't!) occured to me. In order to get the engine to settle down low enough in the engine bay to accommodate that shiny dual plane intake and carb, you will need to wrestle with the motor mounts. It seems that with the help of others on this bulletin board I have figured out why my engine was unable to fit under the closed hood of my car. I am told there actually are 3 different motor mount and frame mount styles in the book for a '68 like ours. The 350 and BBC mounts are basically the same, apparently, but the 307 mounts are what you need (assuming yours was a 307 car) to get the 454 down low on the cross-member - on the original frame mounts.
I am placing an order today for a set of the 307 block-side mounts to see if that is what I am needing. Maybe yours are good from the smallblock that came out? I got my car as a roller without engine/trans.
Good luck with your project! Let's start an exclusive club of BBC Malibu drivers! :beers:

aukai Oct 17th, 06, 12:18 AM Damn that motor cleaned up nice now when did you promise the wife you would do the garage. (just having fun with you mine looks about the same)
DRLs68 Oct 17th, 06, 6:43 AM The engine builder said I should be at 8.9:1. I didn't want high CR. I wanted to use pump gas and just have a fun cruiser. As for the motor mounts it was a 327 car. From what I've read on here, my old mounts should work fine. I'll have to double check though. And yes my wife has commented on the messy garage. I always tell her to leave my "Woman Free Man Space" alone. HA HA
Dave Murdoch Oct 24th, 06, 2:08 PM sorry to drift off topic, but anybody know if the head bolts/header conflict comes up with a small block install?
Ricks70ss Oct 24th, 06, 2:46 PM so ya got duct tape holding it together? HA HA HA just kidding. looks real good. bet ya can't wait to hear it run huh?
