What are the casting numbers on the L88 block? Does it have GM aluminum heads and intake? Sounds like an interesting car.

Just remember that there were 1st and 2nd design L88's. 1st was closed chamber and 2nd was the good one with open chamber. The open chamber heads were aluminum. I had one in a 1966 Olds Cutlass with a th400 and 4.33 posi. The car looked like Mom's grocery getter. Can you say sleeper. Dumbest thing I ever did was to sell that engine.

The casting number is on the bellhousing flange at the back of the block. You should be able to see it looking down between the firewall and the back of the driver's side cylinder head. The casting date can be a couple different places. One is on the same bellhousing flange, but to the left of the distributor area. The other is on the side of the block near the starter,
All the L88 engines were aluminum head as far as I know. There were many other Chevy Hi-Perf engines that were iron headed. Your short block may still be an L88 though.
