Hi everyone -
I usually find the info without posting...but I can't figure this out. I recently got a 64 El Camino and I need to get a new Wiper Switch - the one in the car as no wires going to it / no connectors on it at all. How can I tell if the motor I have is 1 or 2 speed? It does have the washer pump, but that's not connected to anything either. Weather has been iffy and I need to get these working - need to know what switch to order. Thanks in advance!

A one speed motor is pretty much rectangular, the two speed motors are more round. If you have a two sped motor with washer, your switch will have three spade connectors on it. two that are running parralel and in line with eachother and one below it that is parallel to those two. The wire/s you are looking for are black with blue. Regardless of your wiper speed being two or one, you will have the one speed wire coming directly from your fuse panel. If you look under your dash and to the left of your fuse panel there is a rectangular rubber grommet with three round holes in it, the two speed motor has the harness running through this and is a three wire harness. If you want I can take a picture of my two speed motor and email it to you. My email addy is rodnamy@sbcglobal.net

Rod - Thank you! I have a 2 speed - I found the wire connector which was still connected to the back of the switch (which had busted off of the switch it self) 3 wire harness is still in tact. I need to bench test the motor to be sure it still functions(found that proceedure here too), and if that checks out I'm good to go

Thanks so much!
