I took the Chevelle to LVD today and was pleased with the results.I ran a new best ET and went to the semis in the gambler race. The car seems to be dead on consistent, but the driver wasnt
I have to work on getting the car to hook with the new converter as my 60ft times were consistently in the 1.45-1.46 range and I feel this car will 60ft in the low 1.40's.
My new best is recorded as follows:
.047RT
1.467 60FT
4.236 330FT
6.590 660FT
103.69 660FT MPH
8.657 1000FT
10.416@127.80MPH
Car setup:
King Demon 1090CFM jetted at 99 Square,.023 High speed air bleeds
1 inch carb spacer
Timing 32 degrees @ 3000rpm
29.5x10.5x15s MT ET Drags set at 12 psi
20 psi in r/r air bag
Footbrake launch @ 1500rpms
Shifted at 6300rpms
I will be back at LVD tommorrow for the high stakes gamblers race, and I want to try a little more air in the slicks maybe 16-18 psi.
I thank everyone for your help and input,I believe that my understanding with how to set up my car has vastly improved as a result being able to compare notes with all of you.
With Much Thanks,
Vinny

Vinny That is great news, Vinny. I think your carb is very rich with #99 jets. My son has had several Dominators and none worked very well when jetted over 95's. Most preffered about 93's. The timing is a little slow at 32 degrees if that is as far as it goes. The big motor in my son's car likes 35-37 degrees. Your tires should be pretty close and i would suggest no more than 13-14 lbs. unless they are Drag Radials then the 18-20 lb. range is what i hear works best. Good luck on your quest. What is your weather like now?

Hi Vinny,

I've been following your posts and I'm glad to see the car running closer to its potential. I'm with Harold, 32 degrees doesn't seem like much timing. Assuming the balancer/light is reading correctly. I would make a baseline pass tomorrow at 32, then go to 34 with no other changes and see what happens. I suspect it will run faster even if it is jetted fat. Keep going up on the timing until the MPH flattens out. Then work on the jetting and see what happens. I'm sure it has a good bit more performance left in tuning/suspension.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info Harold and Ken,
On the Dyno this engine definetely made more power at 32 degrees and with the jetting fat.It is a cold morning here in the Hudson Valley and the car seems to like the 99's.
I will post my results later,I am heading up to LVD now.

Vinny Vinny, If the numbers you got from dyno tuning were from a chassis dyno don't put to much stock in them. A car's jetting will likely not be correct from a chassis dyno as the motor accelerates differently on the track than on rear wheel dyno rollers. I know a guy who dynoed his car and gained 40 H.P. but when he took it to the track it had slowed down two tenths, he put it back to the way it had been before he dynoed it and the times went back to his original levels. Rich jetting only cost some power though and won't hurt the engine. If your only taking the engine to 6300 RPM your leaving a lot on the table as that motor should peak around 7000. It should easily go into the 130 MPH range if you turn it a little tighter. Holley dominator carburetors usually make more power than the BG's too. You will probably want to turn it to around 6800 in low then let second go on up to 7000 and see what that does for your times.

Congrats Vinny. I have never run a King Demon but my Dominator only has 92 jets in it. I agree with Harold on one point that the dyno and track don't match. My 509 ran great on the dyno and loaded up like crazy at the track. When my 540 was dynoed it had 88 jets in it. I couldn't believe it was right so I raised them to 92's. The car went no faster. I would try leaning it out a little and see if it changes anything. Glad to hear the new converter is working.

way to go vinny with a new converter you will more than likely post another new best soon they usually get a little better as they brake in.i dont think a little more timing will hert at all.

Well I have another new best 10.415.I had a great day and went some rounds against some tough competition.I lost at the tree when I fell asleep with a .118 R/T :boring:,but still had a chance as the other driver was dozing a little less than me with a .108 R/T.It was a great handle to handle run,we both dialed in at 10.45.The car that eliminated me was a 1968 Goat, there is nothing better than a pair of old GM A bodies running the quarter handle to handle.
I did launch the car off the brake with a 4000 chip and it was a hell of a ride, but I blew the tires off and only pulled a 1.509 60FT on the way to a
10.78 ET.The car launched perfectly level with the trans brake and 20 psi in the r/r air bag,It was a blast and it got some serious air under the front tires.
All in all,it was a great weekend of racing :hurray:
