I have replaced my starter & front noze cap 4 times in 4 weeks. My mechanic says the engine is turning back & I have had the timing adjusted properly by the mechanic. Does anyone know what else could be causing this. I am sick of changing starters every week!

There has been a lot of posts on starters, try going to our search and type in starter. Good luck.

since you don't give a reason for replacing...just stop doing it.

Get a mini starter and be done with it! I had my fair share of difficulties with the stock starter. Replaced it with the mini.

Or have him replace it and if it comes back then it might be on him rather than you. You probably have something not right, flywheel out of round? Starter not shimmed correctly? Ring gear teeth on flex plate/flywheel are worn?

As mentioned is you search the threads you will find alot of info. You didn't mention if the car has stock exhaust or headers? Has the motor been changed in regard to parts, hotter cam, higher compression etc... also are you using the starter that requires the extention piece on the lower screw of the selenoid? I used to have problems with starters and they were usually heat related, big killer of starters on small and big block chevys. That may not be your issue but it is the experience I have had in the past. The mini starter may solve the issue but you might want to make sure everything else is good first. good luck Andy

Are you using the support brace which attaches from the stud on the starter to the engine block? I have a new one I'm not using. Tony A
