: Are Cortez Silver and Argent Silver the same?
Dear Guys, well that's my question. I looked in paint codes but couldn't make it out. In the General section tonight there are two different posts. One fellow describes his El Camino as one colour and further down somebody calls his car the other, both are '69's I believe. I have a car painted argent silver and was wondering if Cortez is just a bit lighter, so the question is not just academic curiousity. If I paint my car again some day, I would like it a little lighter. Of course there are a lot of variables. Maybe I chose the wrong paint? Don't want to make the same mistake twice. Thanks R. B.
drptop70ss Jan 29th, 02, 7:06 AM I didnt think whole cars were painted
with argent silver, only detail items like
grilles or rally wheels. I believe real
argent silver has a slight green tint to it.
SilverLS6 Jan 29th, 02, 8:49 AM I see you're in Canada. I'm not really sure this answers the question but I'll point it out. I recently got documentation on my car from the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario. It was all English on one side and French on the other. In English it listed the car color as Silver... in French it was listed as Argent. Maybe that's just the French word for Silver? (I don't speak French.)
I know that the wheels have something called Argent Silver. I believe that's a darker color.

Dear Guys, you're gonna think I went to a lot of trouble to set up a joke, but I didn't, honest! Although I have always lived in Canada, I am not exactly bilingual. I survived ( barely ) high school French, and can confirm that argent is indeed French for silver. Here's where it gets stupid...my car is a Beaumont. I trust you see the irony. I have a whole car painted argent silver, maybe it was a Beaumont colour. It does look a little darker. It was chosen deliberately at the time, but now I think I would have prefered a shinier silver. Any other answers or opinions maybe from a paint or body shop professional would be welcome. Thanks R. B.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "shinier silver"?
Cortez Silver (see pics below). Is a body color. Argent Silver was a trim color used on ralley wheels and such. The finish gloss of Argent Silver is somewhat dull/flat, not very shiney at all. Where Cortez Silver has a high gloss finish.
It's hard to compare the contrast of the two colors if the glosses are different.
A high gloss finish could appear lighter or darker than a flat finish when in sun or shade.
