Just found out that 1964-1967 Chevelle front shocks are the same as the 70-81 Camaro.
I would assume the 1970-81 Firebird also.

So, if you need front shocks for your 64-67 Chevelle, keep your eyes peeled in the wrecking yards for 70-81 Camaros. Maybe you'll find some good ones!

would you really buy used shocks? every jobber parts store will stock NEW shocks for a-bodies. KYB are great.

What if you stumbled onto a 70-81 Camaro or Firechicken in the wrecking yard that looked like it had brand new front shocks on it !!!!

This is helpful info, now knowing that I can browse the for-sale adds on the camaro forums, or special sales on high-end shocks (billstein, varishock, QA1, edelbrock, etc.) for a 2nd gen camaro, I may be able to save some money. :)
...and since I haven't had my wife's 66 apart yet, what's the difference between 64-67 and 68-72 shocks? I had assumed they were the same...

KYB are great. KYB are at the bottom of the barrel for a performance shock. They are better than your typical AutoZone cheapo's, but they are far from "great"

This is interesting - I spoke to a Koni rep who told me their rear shocks were approx. 1" shorter than what is needed for a stock height '67 ....Now I'll call him asking about the camaro....
