Anyone here ever stuff a 4 1/2" stroke crank in a pass. 454 block? Without dumping a ton of money in machine work???

You may get a 4.375" stroke crank into a 454 block but I seriously doubt a 4.5" will fit.
You'll need an aftermarket tall deck...

You also end up with a very short piston deck and pretty rotten rod angle. Bill's right, you'd be better off going aftermarket and tall deck on that. Besides, the 4.5 and bigger bores of aftermarket blocks unshroud the valves and breathe so much better than small bore production block stuff. One other thing to consider is that there's a very limited selection of pistons for that stroke. There's a ton of 4.25 stroke stuff available, though.

I read that the tall deck, 427 truck block can be machined out so that it becomes like a 550"+ motor.

And the good thing is that you can use longer rods b/c of the .400" taller decks.

I think it is like a 4.375" b x 4.60" s motor...

It can't be made to clear the crankcase without filling the lower part of the water jacket even in a factory truck block. You must grind too much metal out of the bottom of the cylinders. The aftermarket blocks will work just fine but aren't cheap.

That's pretty much what I figured. Thanks.
