Are there differences between, say, Tuxedo black and other blacks? If so, what are they, and what is a "good" modern black to specify? I mean is there a difference between 2003 GM black and 1966 GM black? Or is this a stupid question? Because it's starting to sound like a stupid question.

Black is definatly not just black, just like white isnt just white.

I dont know if the 2 colors of black you refered to are the same or not but my sugestion would be to find the a car that has the look you want and use that color.

I hope this helps, sorry I couldnt offer more info but I am sure someone else will have more info for you.

if you look closely (like along highlight lines when the car is outside), you can see that some blacks are based on a blueish tint, others on a reddish-brown etc... you've really gotta look at the paint in person, then go from there.

Thanks MartinSr and everyone else, that was helpful. I've been looking around on the road and it's a little hard to tell a 'good' black from just a black car that's very clean, so I will try dealerships. A couple of newer Toyotas have caught my attention, I think I'll start with a Toyota dealer.

Do you think that, if you had a red interior, that you'd want to stay away from blacks with, say, more blue in them? And look for a black with more red in it? Or do you think that doesn't matter as much?
