Help

I will be replacing and upgrading my rearend this winter. I will be keeping my GM 8.5 inch 10-bolt housing and replacing everything in there. I want a 30-spline limited slip carrier and 30-spline C-clip axles with a 3.73 gear.

Question: Which make and model Carrier would you recommend? There is detroit locker, detroit trutrac, eaton posi, etc. I don't which which is best recommended for my application. I believe they are all about the same price (around $425 or so)

Mine is a street car, not a trailer queen drag car. Has BB 454 motor, Turbo 350 trans with 3000 stall converter.

thanks.

Eaton will be best for your use. The Detroit Locker would be great if you were drag racing a lot. The Trutrac is good for auto cross. Don't go Auburn.

thanks buddy. I knew this would happen. I'm getting pointed in different directions. that's ok though. I have narrowed it down to a Eaton Posi or a Detroit Trutrac. I will make my decision soon.

thanks 69 - looks like most people are agreeing with you. I'm certainly leaning towards the Eaton Posi at this time.

What's this swap gonna cost you? I've got a peg leg 10 bolt with a mild 350 engine and would like to get affordable positraction. It this costs a lot, I'd probably spend a bit extra and find a 12 bolt.

the cost of a new 12 bolt housing setup is $2200.00 from moser, etc. I just bought all the 10-bolt stuff for about $1100.00 including the cover plate girdle. Heres what I got:

Moser 30-spline axles @ $235/pair
Eaton 30-spline posi @ $410
Richmond 3.90 gear set @ $175
Master Installation kit @ $100
10-bolt Moser Housing cover Girdle @ $125
Had a welding shop TIG weld the axles @ $100

Total about $1200.00

I save about $1000 by keeping the 10-bolt housing and when it's done it will probably be equal in strength to a 12 bolt setup.
