I purchased and am beginning to work on my 1970 Chevelle, 30 years in the waiting. And have two questions on body work.

I wanted to ask if anyone has ever seen or heard of the metal getting lose in front of the cowl opening on the hood. The hood that I have has a bow on the front half, driver's side, in the rectangular opening for the cowl door. It appears as if the outer skin of the hood has come unfastened in that lip, as the left side is tight and does not give. I have a picture but am not sure if I can post that on here. Will I need to re-weld this? How would I go about doing it.
It appears that the prior owner of the car had left the hinges get rusty and tight and then forced the hodd up or down, which caused a crease in the channel support in front of the hood hinge on the right hand side, and I would guess then popped this section loose. I am thinking of wire welding a bead along that creased portion or the hood channel suipport to rebuild it, but was not sure on this section in front of the cowl opening.
I have found some low spots in the hood. some of which had been attempted to be filled in with putty. Some of which he got and some he did not. I am not sure of using putty on a hood.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Vargas,
IMO, if the hood is that rough, I would break down and by a repro Goodmark hood. The time, money and frustration you spend getting the hood straight is just not worth it for the price of a reproduction. Especially since you look down the hood EVERY time you drive it, personally anything short of a perfectly straight hood would drive me nuts.
Just my 2cents. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
