Yesterday I ordered a 2" cowl hood from Glasstek for my '81.
I first saw a Glasstek hood on a '65 Chevelle in 1996 or so. That was the first time I had heard of Glasstek. It was also the first time I had seen a cowl type hood for a '65. I was impressed that they made this type of hood for a '65 and also by the quality. I have seen many other fiberglass hoods on various cars over the years and that one has always stood as one of the better ones I had seen. There is one manufacturers hood, who shall remain nameless, I had seen on a '79 that impressed me as THE worst one I had come across. So those experiences along with many comments on this board had convinced me to go with Glasstek. Actually I had come to this conclusion at least a couple of years ago. I was just waiting until my latest project had progressed to a point where I could order one.
The person I talked to on the phone was very nice and the ordering experience was pleasant. She said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to process the order so I decided to go ahead and place my order now rather than wait. I originally called just to get some details on the shipping process and costs involved. Since the order takes the 2 to 3 weeks to process I figured I'd go ahead and place my order now. By the time I get it the weather will be better and the cruise season will be starting up. She explained that part of the reason it will take up to 3 weeks is that they will have to make the hood, in other words, they don't have a bunch sitting in the warehouse waiting to be shipped and that this is not a mass produced item. I like this because it kind of means that I will get my own made to order hood. I don't know how big the company is but maybe this allows them to control quality better.
Hopefully the shipping will go off without a hitch. I am not sure which truck depot in my area I will have to go to in order to pick it up. I am more concerned about the shipping part than anything.
I just wanted to let everyone know that the ordering process from them went well. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
